Crews working to open Highway 24 between Minturn, Red Cliff after rock slide

MINTURN — U.S. Highway 24 is still closed today after a rockslide that happened around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday blocked the road between Minturn and Red Cliff at mile market 148, a few miles east of Minturn. As of late Monday morning, Colorado Department Transportation crews were blasting the rocks, some as big as pick-up trucks, to smaller pieces in order to clear the road, said CDOT’s Tracy Trulove. After that, the pavement will need to be patched and repaired before it can be open to traffic. Specialists will evaluate the slope where the slide occurred to see what needs …
