And no, the pink applesauce isn’t some gourmet preparation Smith dreamt up in the Larkspur kitchen, her culinary home for the past 15 years. It’s more a testament to her grandmother’s root cellar: Come Christmastime, Smith remembers bringing out everything the family canned that fall — peaches, apples, all manner of veggies — to make sides for a traditional turkey.
