(Vail, Colo.) – Santa Claus is still coming to town in 2020 – virtually! Due to the increased number of COVID-19 cases in Eagle County, the Vail Recreation District determined that the best and safest option for a Santa visit is through the magic of technology. Reserve your time slot on Friday, Dec. 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. so your little ones can make sure they get to tell Santa their holiday wishes!
This online event is free for all ages.
Calling in from his village in the North Pole, Santa Claus sounded optimistic about the change in format. “I love getting to visit with children in person,” he said. “But I am thankful that this year my elves helped me set up a Zoom account so I can still talk to children at a distance while keeping everyone safe. Mrs. Claus keeps reminding me that I’m in a high-risk group. I do eat around 50,000 cookies that are left out for me on Christmas Eve, so my blood sugar is a little higher than I’d like. Maybe it’s not smart to eat that many cookies in one night.”
Here is how the 2020 virtual Santa visit will work: log onto www.vailrec.com/register and choose one of the available 10-minute time slots. Each family will have approximately one to two minutes to visit with Santa as there will be multiple families per time slot.
Participating families will need a free Zoom account and a computer or smartphone that has a webcam or front-facing camera and can run the Zoom app.
When registering, you will be able to enter the names of all the children Santa will be speaking with. Further instructions including the Zoom link and helpful tips for a successful Zoom call will be emailed to participants once registered.
