VAIL — For some fourth-graders at June Creek Elementary School, the annual overnight field trip to the Colorado National Monument can be a daunting experience away from home.“It’s a scary thing the first night,” said Thomas van Cleave, a fourth-grade teacher at June Creek and a member of SOS Outreach. “By the third night, they’re walking with confidence through the camp and they’re not really happy about going home the next day.”The annual Parks-4-Kids program is celebrating 100 years of national parks, and SOS Outreach stepped in to help fund the four-day trip for June Creek students beginning Tuesday by …

Police searching for theft suspect involved in 3 heists

BEAVER CREEK — Police are asking for help identifying a suspect linked to three separate thefts of items totaling $5,371.On April 24, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of three stolen items from sportswear store Kjus in Beaver Creek Village. Later that day, deputies received another report of several liquor bottles missing from the Golden Eagle Inn Restaurant.On April 28, deputies were called for nine Spyder jackets reported stolen from the Park Hyatt the same day the other thefts occurred.A Park Hyatt employee reported witnessing a suspicious person grabbing a large black bag out of the bushes …

It was supposed to be the bookend on a dream season on Vail Mountain, but for ski instructor Myreh Luallen, Closing Day turned into a nightmare.
