LEADVILLE — In 1879, a group of nuns from Kansas arrived in Leadville to provide medical services to the booming mining town. Now, after 135 years of providing care to the town and surrounding rural areas, St. Vincent Hospital is closing its doors. The 25-bed hospital at 10,152 feet announced on its Facebook page Saturday, Nov. 15, that it will phase out its services over the next few months and no longer serve the roughly 7,300 people who live in Lake County.
