EAGLE COUNTY — The Colorado Department of Transportation announced Wednesday the cancellation of a scheduled closure of Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon. That closure was first set for Wednesday and Thursday, but helicopter operations that required both eastbound and westbound lane closures through the canyon were completed in just one day. That work was required for an extensive rockfall mitigation project. “Ideal flying conditions and employing a Blackhawk helicopter allowed crews to install 12 steel posts and deliver all fencing materials to the hillside,” Project Engineer Mike Fowler said Wednesday. “We are pleased with today’s operations and progress.
