MINTURN — Many avid snow sports enthusiasts may be unfamiliar with splitboarding, as it represents a newer branch of snow-related recreation. Stemming from snowboarders’ desire to easily access the backcountry, a splitboard takes a traditional snowboard and adds a unique binding system along with a split down the middle to transform into skis for uphill skinning. Once at the top of a given face, the board can be reassembled into a traditional design for the descent.
