Well how about those holidays? Are you still standing? Have you come up for air yet? I always love the first two weeks in January in Vail. Exhausted but smiling faces greet me as I walk through town. I almost feel like the local business community is giving each other a collective high-five on another fast-paced, extremely busy season. Local officials are already predicting record occupancy levels during the holiday and record sales tax. If someone is complaining, well you know what, they just don’t get it; being busy is good! Here in Vail, we love it! Keep it coming.
One thing to remember during our winter season and in the upcoming weeks is to keep customer service levels consistent and ensure that every guest who visits receives that same high-level of service that Vail is known for. We are a friendly bunch in Vail, and our guests return year after year because of this.
An important part of the guest experience is that our employees are able to demonstrate a competent knowledge of the area and what is going on week to week. The big push right now is educating ourselves and our employees about the upcoming 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, which is being held in Vail and Beaver Creek Feb. 2-15. There will be a myriad of races, events and activities occurring during this time and being able to direct our guests and answer all of their questions is paramount.
BE PREPARED FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Vail Chamber & Business Association and the Vail Valley Partnership will host 2015 Business Community Kickoff Meeting with the Vail Valley Foundation and Dwight Henninger, from the Vail Police Department, on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Sebastian Hotel in Vail. This meeting is geared towards arming local business owners with the details and important information they will need during this time. It is complimentary and open to anyone in the business community. Business owners as well as their employees are strongly encouraged to attend. Some topics that will be discussed are:
How will 2015 affect your business?
What will be happening during this time?
How many people are expected to attend?
Where will there be parking?
What are the transportation options?
When are the free concerts and who is headlining?
What can you do to support the Championships?
What security measures are being taken?
Come learn everything you need to know about the Championships from the team at the Vail Valley Foundation and the Vail Police Department.
This opportunity for our community to be featured on such a large international stage is one that we do not want to take lightly. Let’s arm ourselves with information, join in on the excitement and welcome the world in style. As I alluded to earlier, keep the positive momentum and attitudes from the holidays going. We live and work in an amazing place, now the rest of the world is going to know that, too!
