LAKE LOUISE, Alberta — Tina Maze of Slovenia won the women’s World Cup downhill opener Friday while Lindsey Vonn finished eighth. Maze, a double gold medalist at the Sochi Olympics, finished in 1 minute, 50.98 seconds. Anna Fenninger of Austria was second in 1:51.43 and Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein was third in 1:51.49. The last time Vonn had skied in a World Cup race was last December in Val d’Isere, France, where the American failed to finish a downhill. The four-time overall World Cup champion is returning to the World Cup circuit after a second knee operation. …
