Crews to begin burning slash piles in Eagle-Vail, Wolcott

VAIL — Smoke may be visible in Eagle-Vail and on Bellyache Ridge near Wolcott this week and next as crews from Eagle County and Eagle River Fire Protection District begin burning slash piles generated from wildfire mitigation projects completed last summer. Firefighters from both agencies will burn piles when weather conditions are favorable for lifting smoke out of the area and moisture in adjacent vegetation is at acceptable levels to prevent the spread of fire.
