EAGLE COUNTY — In a tightly contested state Senate race, Republican Don Suppes of Orchard City led Democrat Kerry Donovan of Vail by a margin of about 1,300 votes early Wednesday morning to represent Colorado State Senate District 5. District 5 includes Delta, Lake, Chaffee, Gunnison, Eagle, Pitkin and Hinsdale counties. As of 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Suppes led with 24,176 votes and 49 percent of the ballots. Donovan followed with 22,868 and 47 percent votes, and Libertarian Lee Mulcahy of Aspen got 1,881 votes and almost 4 percent. This was the first time running for state office for both …
