Donovan pulls ahead in Senate District 5 race

EAGLE COUNTY — In a tightly contested state Senate race, Democrat Kerry Donovan of Vail pulled ahead of Republican Don Suppes of Orchard City as late vote counts came in Wednesday morning. Donovan led by a margin of about 750 votes to represent Colorado State Senate District 5, which includes Delta, Lake, Chaffee, Gunnison, Eagle, Pitkin and Hinsdale counties. Suppes had held a lead of over 2,000 votes late Tuesday, and declared victory on his Facebook page. But late returns from Pitkin County favored Donovan. “A lot can change in seven hours,” Suppes wrote on his Facebook page Wednesday morning. …
