Coroner IDs body found near Rifle

RIFLE — A body discovered in the Fravert area northwest of Rifle earlier this month has been identified by the Garfield County Coroner’s Office as that of Jeremiah J. Michaelis of Rifle. A 23-year-old Rifle resident of the same name was arrested in Grand Junction earlier this year and accused of passing counterfeit bills. The Garfield County Sheriff’s office declined to comment on whether the deceased was the same person. The coroner’s office waited for positive identification of the remains through dental records and DNA before releasing the identity, a sheriff’s office news release said.
