Off the Hill with Tricia Swenson: Dance Challenge less of a competition this year

On most Tuesday nights at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, concerts are center stage during Hot Summer Nights, but each year prior to the Vail International Dance Festival, you’ll get a glimpse of what’s to come with a lively performance by various breakdance, hip-hop and contemporary dancers. The 8150 Urban Dance Challenge was first held in 2012 and has traditionally been a competition, with the winning dance group earning a spot during the Vail International Dance Festival. But this year, the event almost didn’t happen. The close-knit urban dance community recently lost two of their own in a car accident. …
