Monty Alexander, John Clayton and Jeff Hamilton celebrate 40 years at Vail Jazz

VAIL — Completely self-taught on the piano, Monty Alexander moved from his native Jamaica to New York as a teenager. Much to his delight, he suddenly found himself playing at Frank Sinatra’s club. “When I played at Jilly’s in early summer of ’63 when I was 17, I realized I was in very fast company,” he said. “Not just in jazz, but in all the top entertainers in show business.
