Vail Mountain reopens after spending afternoon closed due to lightning

VAIL – Vail Mountain reopened a little after 2 p.m. on Friday after spending the afternoon closed due to lightning. Lifts 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 11, 15 and 19 are now open; Chair 5 and the back bowls are closed for the rest of the day. Rainy conditions turned to slushy snow in Vail Village as the noon hour approached on Friday. Skiers John Quigley and Brad Eich came in from Evergreen and received news Vail was closed as they descended the stairs toward the mountain. “We’ll hang out and see if it reopens,” Quigley said as snow flew …
