Hay truck fire closes lane of I-70 for two hours Friday

AVON – A truck and trailer hauling hay caught fire around 1 p.m. Friday, closing a lane of Interstate 70 for about two hours between Avon and Eagle-Vail.No injuries were reported, said Trooper Josh Lewis with the Colorado State Patrol.The initial report was smoke and no flames, but in the minute or so it took fire fighters from the Eagle River Fire Protection District to get there, the hay on the trailer was mostly engulfed.Because hay bales are wrapped so tightly, even when it was extinguished outside, it was still smoldering inside.
