Former sheriff’s deputy pleads not guilty to sex assault

EAGLE — A former Eagle County sheriff’s deputy pleaded not guilty to charges that he sexually assaulted a Gypsum woman. Timothy Joseph Hay and his attorney, Lawson Wills, scheduled their trial for March 23. Wednesday’s appearance was their first in District Court Judge Paul Dunkelman’s court. If he’s convicted, Hay could face life in prison. Based on the statute under which Hay is charged, if he is convicted, the District Court would sentence him to a minimum of four years, “up to the offender’s natural life.” Hay, 42, is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a vacant warehouse office …
